Apparently I'm done with college...

Posted by shiite on Saturday, May 8, 2010, In : school
I just had my final Final of college the other day and I'm not quite sure whether I'm sad or excited to be over and done with college. This semester went by so fast (!) and hopefully before I know it I'll be off in another continent, serving in the Peace Corps for 27 months. I am supposed to hear back by "early May" regarding my placement, so I'm hoping I'll hear back this week. Serving in the Peace Corps has been a "dream" of mine ever since I became "such-a-fuckin'-hipster" (some would say ...

911 for math help...hilarious

Posted by shiite on Saturday, May 8, 2010, In : random
I broke out in tears when I first listened to this audio clip.  I showed it to my roommate, who didn't find it quite as funny, so maybe I have an overly mathematical/nerdy sense of humor...I thought it was cute.

Written April 27, 2010:

The Invisible Pink Unicorn (Behold Her Pinkness That Defies All Description!) hath shown herself unto me and revealed her True and Holy Works (doubt it not!). Unto I, Saint Scheidtster the long-winded and most unworthy, She clearly stated (my earplugs were out): “Verily, let it be said: the LGBTQ community is, like OMG, A-OK, ok?” As it was written by the prophet Gangsta (Jib. 1:99, not to be confused wit...

CmpE Love Poem

Posted by shiite on Thursday, May 6, 2010, In : poetry
This one goes out to all the Computer Engineering fellas out there...oh yeah...

"I can ray trace you an empire,
Or mesh you a sea,
I can voxel a mountain,
Or a servant on its knee.
Oh sweet lady let us run together
On the grid of x,y,z.
My lexical analyzer screams at my soul,
I've never seen anything more lovely.
I've seen no class in OOP that can hold,
One so truly holy.
Your tenderness is like a UNIX script,
Your voice like a high quality mp3,
And when you glance my way,
You seg fault my memory.
To my hea...

Mathematical deliciousness

Posted by shiite on Thursday, May 6, 2010, In : poetry
I came across this poem a while ago and it brought quite the smile to my face:

"They integrated from the very point of origin. Her curves were continuous, and even though he was odd, he was a real number. The day their lines first intersected, they became an ordered pair. From then on it was a continuous function. They were both in their prime, so in next to no time they were horizontal and parallel. She was awed by the magnitude of his perpendicular line, and he was amazed by her conical pr...

Health Insurance Reform

Posted by shiite on Thursday, May 6, 2010, In : health care
NOTE: this was written before the Health Care Reform passed.

Insurance companies have spent over $180 million to defeat health care reform and in the process tried to convince the American public that reform will actually harm them. The current health care bills being debated will reduce the deficit long term (CBO); limit out of pocket costs, giving Americans real health security and peace of mind; require insurance companies to spend more of their premium dollars they collect on actual patien...

An Ode to the Nerdy Hip-Hop Girl

Posted by shiite on Thursday, May 6, 2010, In : poetry

I step into the club

You’re there (shakin’ that thang, shakin’ that thang)

I ask where your D-O-double-G at, ‘cause you’re so H-double-O-D

You gettin’ that boom boom pow but also that academic degree

You got them apple bottom jeans and the boots with the fur

Your flow is smoother than Flo Jo -- you got soul, but ain’t a soldier

You place the library items back on the carts after use

Lord Byron’s poetry being put back to good use

You droppin’ twenty fours on your Es...
